Job Description
HealthFitness has great opportunities available for On-Call Health Educators supporting our Seminar events in and around the City of Buffalo, NY.
On-Call Health Educators support the HealthFitness mission to improve the health and well-being of the people we serve, by delivering in-person and web-based health education seminars and group training classes on a variety of wellness subjects.
Health Educators provide engaging, practical, science-based seminars in a group setting to help raise awareness of healthy choices and reduce health risks among employees. HealthFitness educational seminars are one-hour seminars in diabetes, back health, stress, heart health, blood pressure, weight, womens health, sleep, nutrition, physical activity and financial wellbeing.
Health Educators also deliver group wellness classes to support individuals in transforming the way they approach healthy behaviors and use a coaching approach to help participants lose weight, quit smoking, eat healthier, manage stress, and increase exercise. The HealthFitness group wellness classes are results-oriented group training and motivational programs that occur weekly over the period of one to several months.
Health Educators work from home and deliver seminars and classes at various regional client locations. Travel may be requested overnight and on weekends. This position is on-call, hours are not guaranteed, and full time openings are not available. Associates will receive notifications for local and non-local seminar opportunities and may sign up based on their availability.
Duties & Responsibilities:
+ Deliver in-person and web-based health education seminars and group training classes, using existing product slides and speaker guides, on a variety of wellness subjects
+ Complete pre-event and post-event checklist of deadline driven tasks including satisfaction survey management and attendance tracking
+ Adhere to HealthFitness performance and professionalism standards including, but not limited to, data privacy (HIPPA) and confidentiality policies
Education, Certification, and Experience Requirements:
+ Associates degree or higher in nutrition, dietetics, health promotion, health education, community health, public health, exercise physiology, kinesiology or other health related field; or equivalent combination of education and/or industry-related experience
+ Minimum of 1 year experience presenting on health and wellness topics, and proven proficiency in the ability to learn and apply established content
+ Current CPR and First Aid certification
+ Certifications and experience in health related fields preferred
+ Current CHES certification preferred
+ Knowledge of, or experience in, health coaching techniques, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral modification, stages of change, positive psychology and other health behavior change theories and approaches
Job Requirements:
+ Qualified candidates must have a reliable form of transportation, must be willing and able to travel, and must have frequent to the internet via mobile phone, tablet, computer and/or laptop.
+ Qualified candidates must have proven proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; Access strongly preferred
+ Successful Health Educators have the ability to work independently, display strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills, engage and motivate participants, manage time effectively, meet deadlines, and demonstrate reliability and consistency
